Moonlight Presents H.264 Embedded HDTV Video CODECs

Created for the latest Video & Multimedia DSP from Philips

(Jan. 15, 2004) -- Moonlight presented its real-time H.264 and MPEG-2 High-Definition video CODECs for the Philips Nexperia PNX1500 for display as part of the Philips Connected Home Showcase at the 2004 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

H.264 is emerging as the new standard for high quality video in consumer electronics. Moonlight’s high-performance H.264 and MPEG-2 CODECs embedded on the advanced, cost-effective Philips Nexperia PNX1500 offer the next stage in the evolution of video in consumer electronics.

Moonlight’s CODECs are presented on development boards by MDS (Momentum Data Systems), Moonlight's representatives in North America. MDS is an official distributor of Philips for development platforms, providing hardware and software development support and solutions worldwide.

Real-time H.264 video decoding for the Philips Nexperia PNX1500. Moonlight demonstrates its CIF 30fps (main profile) superior quality DSP decoder solution on the Philips Nexperia PNX1500. Moonlight expects to release a H.264 Decoder capable of D1 quality and a H.264 Encoder for the PNX1500 in the near future. Moonlight offers its H.264 Decoder for the PNX1500 as a part of its MMP (Mobile Media Player) software package together with its high-performance Real Time PC-based H.264 Half D1 30fps (main profile) Encoder and Full D1 PC-based H.264 Decoder. From the capture of video content on the PC to its storage and eventual viewing from a MMP, the Moonlight MMP software package is the comprehensive MMP solution for the consumer electronics manufacturer.

MPEG-2 D1 and 720p Video CODECs for the PNX1500. Moonlight re-affirms its position as the provider of premier video CODEC solutions with the demonstration of its PNX1500 DSP solution. The high-quality Moonlight MPEG-2 Decoder for the PNX1500 provides real-time D1 and 720p 30fps decoding with unparalleled efficiency, handling 30%+ of random lost packets. The Moonlight MPEG-2 Encoder for the PNX1500 provides high quality real-time D1 level encoding supporting bit-rates as low as 2 Mbps (2 Mbps-8 Mbps). In addition to the superior quality delivered, the robust implementation of Moonlight’s Real-Time CODEC solution results in efficient power usage.

"Moonlight and the new PNX1500 can now offer consumer electronics manufacturers the best solution for low cost, low power, multi-format appliances" comments Moonlight CEO, Ira Dvir. "Implementing the market’s most anticipated video standard, H.264, coupled with efficient and high quality MPEG-2, Moonlight provides THE optimized solution for today and tomorrow’s consumer mobile and desktop electronic needs.”

About Moonlight Cordless Limited
Moonlight Cordless Limited is a leading provider of software CODEC products based on its core-technology. Moonlight’s PC, DSP and SoC (CPU cores) software products provide powerful and cost-effective video codecs for consumer electronics and PCs, over existing standards (mainly MPEG-2 and H.264). The Company’s revolutionary video technology drives the expansion of software and silicon MPEG-2 and H.264 products. Since its establishment, Moonlight has challenged the status quo of the video compression industry by stretching the limits of existing standards and enabling MPEG-2 compression in unparalleled quality and bit rates. Moonlight Cordless Limited is a privately held company based in Tel Aviv, Israel.
